Cardiff Kook Gets Scooped

We spent the morning shooting surfers at Oceanside California – a 3-5 ft SW swell made for some pretty intense beach breaks! Oceanside is home to The California Surf Museum located at 312 Pier View Way in, dedicated to archiving and displaying surfboards, surf art, memorabilia and more. However, just down the Coast Highway (101) in Cardiff, something had happened overnight that drew hundreds!

Here, in one of the most elaborate stunts in memory surrounding the infamous $120,000 bronze “Magic Carpet Ride” statue (A boy learning how to surf). Here a pterodactyl swoops down to snatch the boy from his board and whisk him off for, perhaps a quick snack! This has not been the first time such a prank has been displayed! This surfer has been inundated by a huge wave and been eaten by a ravenous shark!

Look Mom, I can Fly!

Local surfers have displayed dimay over the statue since its 2007 unveiling citing the rather effeminate and clumsy stance of the young lad. They collectively called it The Cardiff Kook, a name which remains to date!
